Great show this night. It felt like a walk into culture. The band came on with zero lights or any introduction. They simply played the soundtrack to the three films. Adam Jones was playing with them.

Five years ago I was stricken with Poison Oak all over my face. I looked like Elephant Man. Eyes nearly swollen shut. This did not stop me from going down to the club in the early afternoon to catch the sound check. An amalgamation of many Melvins songs and riffs. I tried desperately to get the band to have dinner with me. Bribing the Melvins with free food didn't work. Much to my surprise, Adam Jones from Tool was there. Buzz and Adam ended up feeling sorry for my lame appearance and endured a few lame questions about my passion for the band. Buzz was rather polite and damn cool. Thanks Buzz. I returned later to the show and got messy in the pit with my fellow fans. They played well that night.

Melvins came on around 11 pm. Bar was crowded with young and old fans. Buzz wore a big black monk type suit. Big Business bass player wore a gold toga. Dale was hidden behind Buzz. Crowd was energized by the new sound and new songs. Nude with Boots was only recently released. The sound was tight and the band played incredibly. 5 years since the band played this town and club. The addition of Big Business into the band makes the guys tighter and bigger. Some eager young mohawk bearing kid got too excited and messed with the bass. A string was broken or pulled and the towering giant got pissed. Big Business bass man heckled the idiot (fairly politely I thought) and the bouncers tossed the kid. Buzz mocked the punkie by reminding the crowd that junior was a living example of what punk rock was like in 1979. All hooted. The band was so good. The new album is great and it was never easier listening to so many new songs live. The Melvins deserve a bigger fan base and more money. They ended the show with a young confused fan screaming "play something faster, play something faster" while Buzz and the boys played a nice version of Boris. As the drummers left the stage and it was just Buzz and his large new friend, the young man kept complaining and asking for something fast and hard to which I tapped him on his black tee sweat soaked shoulder and told him "you don't get Melvins fast and hard without some slow and creepy". The Melvins remain a band that makes me smile at every show. Buzz and Dale, thank you for your band.
