This was the tour they played with no opener and Dave Scott Stone playing second guitar and added effects. During the first set the band was awfully chatty, which is unusual for the Melvins who usually play in total silence in regards to the audience. This was also the first tour where the band wore mumus, which lead to some interesting banter and comments from the audience. At one point Buzz said he heard someone from the audience say they look like a bunch of homos, to which Dale replied "only a man knows what a man needs," which got a big laugh. Buzz also told a joke about Billy Corgan's mom and Courtney Love and a strap-on, which I don't remember all of right now but was really funny. At the end of the first set they played Smells Like Teen Spirit and brought up a member of the audience who was wearing a Nirvana shirt to sing it, but either he was too shy or he didn't know the words and the crowd sang it louder (and better) than he did. The second set started with David playing that wire with a contact mic and was pretty noisy but awesome, at which point I gave Buzz a flipbook I made back in art school featuring Melvins album artwork. Pretty early in this set there was a technical issue so the band chatted some more before going into Revolve. The second set was pretty good, but I wish they played more full songs instead of just snippets. Small quibble, as it's probably the only time I'll hear We Reach and Leech live.

First time seeing the band live, this was pre mumu era, when Kevin was still new to the band. They played mainly material off of The Maggot along with a couple off of The Bootlicker, which wasn't out yet, and a couple of oldies like Eye Flys and Hog Leg. There was a point during the show where Dale had some technical issues so Buzz and Kevin played Okie from Muskogee. This was one of the last times they played the Rave as that venue isn't very good and is known for screwing over local bands, which the Melvins don't take kindly to. They also talked about playing with White Zombie and Primus there in the past and jokingly said that anyone who paid money to go see them at those shows would be refunded.

This was one of the shows were they played two sets, the first set being mostly material from The Bride Screamed Murder and the second set featuring most of Lysol. A friend of mine got Dale's drum stick. Totimoshi were good but I only got to see a little bit of their set. Meg sold merch after they were done and Tony worked as roadie for the Melvins, setting up the gear and whatnot.

This show was originally scheduled for the Pearl Room but was then moved to Austin's Fuel Room, which worked out for me as Austin's is only about an hour from where I live and Pearl Room is almost three hours away. It sounds like the Pearl Room has closed down, which was the reason for the move. Evil Army was originally supposed to open the show but they didn't play for some reason, so Weedeater opened, who were okay. Next up the Melvins played and they just slayed. They played for about an hour and played a bunch of stuff off of Nude with Boots along with a couple off of Pigs of the Roman Empire and a sweet Devo cover. We didn't stick around to hear Down as there's just no way they would have been able to top that, plus I'm not really a Down fan.

Trevor Dunn opened the show with his band Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant, which recently put their second album out on Ipecac. They played for about forty minutes, I'm guessing mostly material from the new album as besides Dunn the band was all new compared to the first Trio Convulsant album. Not being too familiar with the music it sounded like a mixture of improvised bits followed by points were the band all came together. After the usual takedown and setup time the Melvins took the stage. This was the last time I saw the band play with Kevin as the bassist and he looked really bad. While he did nail all the bass parts (albeit a little slower than normal), he just didn't look healthy. The band played a few songs off of Stag (including a version of The Bloat with a very heavy ending), Queen from Stoner Witch, Let It All Be, and a couple off of Pigs of the Roman Empire, including the title track with a different ending that included vocals. After about an hour of playing Buzz stopped to say what a good audience we were and as a special treat he brought out Jello Biafra to play some tracks off of the upcoming Never Breathe What You Can't See, which came out a couple of months later, as well as a couple of Dead Kennedys tracks (California Uber Alles and Moon Over Marin), as well as a cover of Halo of Flies by Alice Cooper. Once Jello took the stage the place went pretty crazy, and I can tell you by personal experience that he is lighter than you would think, and he also smells funny.
