The upcoming release from the melvins is scheduled to come out on April 16th, 2001. It's titled H.A.T. which stands for Hostile Ambient Takeover. I've heard from inside sources that it's going to be their best release to date, a cross between the maggot and the bootlicker, very drum heavy. The artwork is done by Buzz's wife Mackie. At the new years eve show they played four or five songs which will be on the album. As well as this release Ipecac is finally putting out the new years 2000 MelvinsFantomas Bigband show in April. The European tour began a couple days ago, I hope everyone over in that neck of the woods is enjoying the shows, I certainly can't wait to see them again this spring. I plan on going to the Chicago date. Melvins have alot going on right now with the tour, and the upcoming release of Colossus of Destiny. I emailed kevin before they went on tour and he said, "hey ... glad you liked etard ... yeah it came out ok ... nothing much going on right now........m. and the melvins is kinda on standby, but it WILL come out eventually... work on Tomahawk is coming along nicely........good group of people, and the music is really good, in my opinion..... much different than the melvins or fantomas.... basically just getting ready for tour........rehearsals and such ..... that's about it. "colossus of destiny" comes out i THINK in April ..... that's a weird one, but good and viscous take it easy, Kevin" m. and the melvins is the project being slowly worked on between the melvins and mike(from godheadsilo and enemymine). Anyways who knows when that's coming out but it should be good when it does. Also Fantomas just got done recording a cd which I guess is a collection of soundtrack covers.
Colossus of Destiny due out in April

Electroretard has been released by Mansruin records, I haven't received my copy yet but I've ordered it off their website. The track listing and other information can be found in the discography section.
The Melvins just played a date in Seattle(a review can be found here), they opened the show with a sampling of their new cd which will be coming out on Ipecac in April which is entitled Collossus of Destiny. Apparently this is a live cd which was recorded to Dat and included Adam Jones from Tool on guitar. Kevin said this of it "The music is "out in the tall weeds" as we like to say—that is, a tad abstract—live and vicious and then resolving into a light and fluffy version of Eye Flys. We were opening for ourselves, and played a loud, loud attack style music. The audience had their fingers in their ears, and couldn't leave because that wasn't allowed by the club. It went on for an hour and then evolved into our "normal " set. It was quite lovely. The promoter asked us not to do that set again, even though we sold the place out 2 nights in a row. We don't play there anymore thanks to their misplaced artistic guidance." credit to melvins.com the melvins official website for that info.
Once their european tour is over they'll be touring the U.S. again in support of that album, the tour dates are posted on the tour dates page(I beleive more dates are still to come). Also the new years eve melvinsfantomas show was recorded and may be released on ipecac as well, that's still up in the air.
First Melvinsfantomas bigband performance in L.A.

This news is courtesy of IPECAC Melvins will begin recording soon for a new studio Cd by Fall. We might put out an odd live Melvins Cd and dig through the archives for some older Melvins reissues too! Mike is also part of an unamed as of yet rock band featuring Duane Denison(Jesus Lizard-guitar), John Stanier (Helmet-drums), Kevin Rutmanis (Melvins,Cows-bass) & Patton. The guys are trading tapes ready to record early 2001!
The Melvinsfantomas bigband made a special appearance at the knitting factory in L.A. it was originally only supposed to be Fantomas. Here's what Steve had to say about it... Mike Patton + others came out, fiddled with their equip., and soon Patton took to the mic. The Band took to their instruments..no greetings..and they began to perform: Sacrifice! It was great. Lombardo started out by playing on the bongo drums, and Patton + Buzz sang together. Beautiful! After Sacrifice, they broke into a Fantomas song, and eventually began playing Night Goat. By now the smell of Beer was strong, the smell of marijuana was even stronger. One guy, who looked like Tom Arraya, + seemed to be a friend of Dave Lombardo, started to blow smoke towards Lombardo..Dave just started laughing when the smoke hit him. After Night Goat, they played more Fantomas songs, and then they broke into what I think is a Melvins song..(contains the lyrics 'I've got my hold on Me'). They then played: -Fantomas song -the Bit (as Buzzo sang, Mike screamed like a wild banshee; it was great) -Fantomas song -Lovely Butterfly -Fantomas song -Grin (?) (I'm not sure of this, I dont have honky, the lyrics went..'the world needs now, and anyway..;it's a mellow/slow song) -Fantomas song - Hooch (with Patton on vocal duties) -Fantomas song -Buzzo sang a song with the lyrics 'Shiny Shinies'..don't know the name of the song.. -Fantomas song -Skin Horse (the second part..) (Patton sang the high pitched part with a voice synthesizer, and Buzzo harmonized a lower part) -Patton sang, I believe a Fantomas song, where he begins 'Be-Bop...' somewhat mellow song, unlike the other songs this one contains words..*shrug* -AMAZON and then Patton said something along the lines..'you came for Fantomas, and you got extra coverage' pointing to the FMBBand.. Encore- Let it all Be I swear I heard parts of 'Soup' in there, just not sure where..Dave Stone was there, and during one song it appeared like he took a mic cord, stretched it across the stage, and began to 'whip' it. I'm not sure what the other end was plugged in to, but with each 'whip', you could hear a form of feedback. Hadn't seen that before. It was an AMAZING show..if you get a chance, definitely see them in San Francisco.
Also remember Electroretard is still coming up in a little over a month so be sure to keep checking back to mansruin.com to see when pre orders begin.
