The recently rumored all drumming album Hew Time featuring Dale Crover and Coady Willis along with Joe Plummer (of Modest Mouse/The Shins/Black Heart Procession) will be coming out on Joyful Noise Recordings March 25th!
Here is how Joe Plummer describes the project:
"I heard Max Roach’s M’Boom 14 years ago and I’ve wanted to make my own version with drummers I love ever since. Dale, Coady and I carved out our own compositions built from a combination of drum kits and dozens of percussion instruments. I couldn’t be prouder of the end result. Thank you for the inspiration Mr. Max Roach. It’s Hew Time!"
The self-titled album is released March 25th on vinyl & digital. The first vinyl pressing is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies on Gold & Black "A-side/B-side" vinyl [SOLD OUT]. The second pressing is limited to 1000 copies on Gold vinyl, available for $15 here.

Here's some detail on the limited 10" Amrep is putting out for Buzz's first solo acoustic tour. A small amount were sold online today, but the majority will be sold on the tour. There are 400 of the red/white/blue and 100 of the splatter versions of the vinyl. (AmRep 094) The four unreleased tracks will be on the full length album later this year via Ipecac Recordings, Revolve and Let God Be Your Gardener are exclusive to the 10".
Side A
- Dark Brown Teeth
- Everything's Easy For You
- Drunken Baby
Side B
- Instrument of God
- Revolve
- Let God Be Your Gardener
Here's what Buzz had to say about the release via The Pitch: It's sort of like in the old days, when they used to release a single prior to the record. It's not even really a release. It's a release, but not like a regular release. There's 500 of 'em, none of 'em go to stores, and the only way you can buy it is either online through us or from me at a show. That's it. So, to call it a release, it's like, "Well, kinda ... " We've done this in the past, and then we've had people go, "This stuff was already put out." I'm like, "Well, I don't consider 500 of them being put out a fair representation of it being released!"

The A.V. Club asked Buzz to pick songs by bands that were good, but blew it: "Metallica is a good example, because when their first record came out, I thought, “Oh, wow! This is a nice breath of fresh air.” From the first time I saw the back cover, it was like, ‘Those guys are ugly!’ These guys aren’t winning any beauty contests. Clearasil could use that cover as an ad, and it was great. ... Now, I would like to take the band on that back cover of the Kill ’Em All album—I would like to take those guys and put them in a time machine and run them forward and make them sit through Some Kind Of Monster and say, “Guys! Do not let this happen!” You know what I mean? How could they not be appalled? They go from a song called “Whiplash” to a psychiatrist in the studio for $10,000 a week. Metal up your ass, indeed."
Guitar World let fans submit questions for Buzz: "I would advise you not to do drugs. But if you’re going to do it, I would advise you to go insane with it. The only thing worse than a drug user is a candy-ass drug user."

Tres Cabrones out today!

Bienvenidos fans of Los Melvins, let us rejoice in today's release via Ipecac Recordings of Tres Cabrones, a 12-song album that finds Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover reuniting with original drummer Mike Dillard! Spotify currently has the entire album up for streaming.
“Tres Cabrones is as close as we’re willing to get to the Melvins 1983 line-up,” explained Osborne. “The best part is it’s all new songs. I specifically wrote tunes that would be good for these guys to play and it worked out great. We had no interest in rehashing tunes we wrote 30 years ago and chose instead to simply create NEW songs. It worked out perfectly.”
“Making the Tres Cabrones record was a real treat indeed. It’s a trip down memory lane complete with debauchery and ultra violence,” said Dillard, who left the band in 1984 only to be replaced by Crover.
“After 30 years we release a record with the (almost) original line-up of the band,” added Crover. “I’ve always felt that drummer Mike Dillard was one of us. It’s great that he’s still a piece of the puzzle! Plus, I get to see what it’s like being the bass player in the Melvins! Tres Cabrones indeed!”
The Talkhouse has a great write up on Tres Cabrones courtesy of the legendary Lenny Kaye, and while we're on the subject check out Buzz's contribution from earlier this year on the Stooges' 'Ready to Die' from the same site.
Melvins will be rejoining Redd Kross this New Year's Eve along with Frightwig in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall.
Buzz recently visited FILTER Magazine's Ernie Ball studio to talk about guitar playing, songwriting and while he was there he recorded an acoustic performance of "Revolve"
